October Favorites

Here are my favorite recipes posted to The Messy Apron in the month of October

One of my all-time favorite Messy Apron recipes!!

Apple Turnovers with Dried Fruit
These yummy little turnovers feature the season’s best fresh apples as well as Easy Cream Cheese Pastry, probably my favorite pie crust.

Just add some pumpkin puree to your favorite applesauce recipe, and you’ve got something special.

Beef Empanada Pot Pie
Rich, meaty, filling and savory. Just what you need for supper as the nights get cold.

Broccoli with Sweet and Spicy Almond Sauce
The sauce is the star of this recipe and it could go on other blanched or steamed vegetables, such as green beans or cauliflower.

A fabulous sweet treat that you don’t have to give away to trick-or-treaters.

A delightfully tangy soup. If everything green tasted like this, all kids would grow up loving their veggies!

One of my favorites for the fall tailgating season.

Maple Date Oatmeal Bars
A simple oatmeal crumble bar with the sweetness of dates and maple syrup

Peanut Butter Butterfinger Blondies
Halloween candy in a peanut butter bar cookie!

I make some version of this homemade pizza just about every week!

My go-to spice blend for fall baking

Little, sweet winter squash are stuffed with a sort of quinoa pilaf flavored with leeks and cranberries.

One of the many permutations of winter squash soup you’ll find in this internet of ours. I particularly like these southwestern flavors and the spiciness of this soup.

These simple roasted fall vegetables are a staple in my oven and on my dinner table during the cool months.

Thanks to a good dose of feta cheese and fresh dill, these are a fabulously flavorful savory scones.

These delicious fold-over pies are wonderful fall fare. Make extras to freeze for easier weeknight meals.

September Favorites

Here are my favorite recipes from The Messy Apron archives posted in the month of September

Apple Baked Oatmeal with Walnuts and Cranberries
A hearty baked oatmeal studded with your favorite apples

Apple Cinnamon Muffins
Moist and flavorful, these muffins are an easy treat for fall mornings, or anytime you feel the need.

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookies
The addition of sautéed fresh apples only serves to enhance these great oatmeal cookies.
Best use of that bumper crop of basil!

Bean Dip with Sour Cream, Salsa and Cheese
An easy fall sports party favorite.

Uniquely tangy and spicy.

One of the few recipes that makes beets palatable to me. A great veggie burger

A somewhat rustic representation of broccoli and cheese

Of course early fall apples are delicious enough on their own, but an easy caramel dip doesn't hurt them.

Cheddar Jalapeno Cheese Ball
A delicious, cheesy, spicy snack spread. Stock up on crackers!

Great with autumn fruit crisps

A simple and delicious use of end of the season beans and greens

A comforting hot bowl of broth, noodles and vegetables for those cooler nights.

Plum and Grape Galette with Almonds
A delicious rustic tart. Make it with the best plums and grapes you can find for a special late summer treat.

Potato and Sauerkraut Cakes
Sauerkraut gives a surprising punch to these hashbrown-style potato patties.

One of my most popular posts. Cherry tomatoes get extra flavor through roasting then get folded into a rustic pie with garlic and olives.

A surprising combination that's sooooo delicious!

An easy but intensely flavorful treatment of fall vegetables.

Zucchini Multigrain Coffee Cake
Shredded zucchini adds moisture to this cake, which is also given a nutty and malty flavor by a multigrain flour mixture.

Gotta put that zucchini somewhere. This is a good sandwich bread.

June Favorites

Here are my favorite recipes from The Messy Apron archives that were posted in the month of June.

Barbecue Beans
Use your favorite barbecue sauce to simmer up a quick pan of delicious beans.

Bean Salad with Mole Vinaigrette
A bottle of dark chocolate flavored balsamic vinegar inspired this hearty salad covered in a dressing reminiscent of mole sauce.

Blueberry Rhubarb Sauce (see photo above)
I'd certainly stand in line to vouch for the deliciousness of the blueberry-rhubarb combo! This sauce is great on plain cake or vanilla ice cream.

This salad, which helps tide me over if there’s a delay in local spring produce, is loaded with chickpeas, kalamata olives, feta cheese and pepperoncini peppers.

Fresh Peas with Mint
Sweet little green jewels just picked from the garden make this very simple salad one of the best things in all of spring. I hope to grow peas forever, just so I can make it again and again.

One of my favorite treatments for green beans. Use a little or a lot of wasabi to your own taste. (I like a lot!)

Sweet and tart squares reminiscent of key lime pie.

Napa Cabbage Slaw with Asian Dressing
A light and fresh cabbage salad with a sweet and sour dressing. Add whatever vegetables you like to accompany the cabbage.

A fairly simple noodle dish with lots of flavor.

Pasta Carbonara with Garlic Scapes and Garlic Chives (see photo below)
This twist on classic pasta carbonara may not be authentic, but it is delicious with the mildly garlicy addition of early garlic stems and garlic chives.

Peanut Butter Ice Cream
Peanut butter. In ice cream. Really!

Rhubarb gets a big boost from brown sugar and vanilla in this especially flavorful and versatile dessert sauce.

A rich and delicious dessert with a shortbread cookie crust, custard filling with rhubarb, and a cheesecake-like topping.

My go-to recipe for the ultra-seasonal asparagus.

A fresh take on the heavily dressed broccoli salads with bacon and raisins. This one has just a touch of mayonnaise in a sweet-tart vinaigrette and dried cranberries in place of the raisins. I left the bacon right where it was.

Strawberry Rhubarb Freezer Jam
A simple and delicious way to save some of those fresh spring fruits for later.

This simple and tasty seasonal sauce is great on ice cream or folded into whipped cream to make a fool.

Just five ingredients get tossed in a wok to make this fast, easy and flavorful stir fry.

Shelled peas, sugar snap peas, and yellow split peas join up in a flavorful salad with a simple lemon-walnut vinaigrette.

Coconut Lime Dressing (see photo above)

It’s hard to believe that something this easy can be this satisfyingly delicious.
